Argyle approves rules for soon-to-open Argyle Nature Trail

A new park in the heart of Old Town Argyle is nearing completion as construction continues and rules are decided.

The Argyle Parks Board approved a list of rules for the Argyle Nature Trail, a small park tucked behind the shopping centers at the corner of Hwy 377 and Cook Street in Old Town, at its Oct. 14 meeting.

According to town documents, park visitors will have to stay on the paved nature trail to avoid disturbing any native plants, pick up after their pets and keep them leashed at all times.

Visitors will not be allowed to use bicycles or motorized vehicles on the trail, nor will they be able to bring in glass containers, alcoholic beverages, fireworks or firearms.

Smoking is also prohibited at the park.

The Argyle Nature Trail will not be able to be used for camping and any group events must obtain a permit through the town.

Other than some discussion on the signs that will display the rules and some lighting suggestions, the parks board unanimously approved the list.

According to an update from the town, the pavement for the trail was poured in mid-October and will eventually wind from the backside of the new Argyle Marketplace development to Little Joe’s Farmstead.

“The Argyle Nature Trail is making great progress,” said the town in a post to social media. “We couldn’t be any more excited to bring this new amenity to the great citizens of Argyle.”

Mayor Ron Schmidt has also envisioned the trail as a spot for the Argyle Farmers Market and a place to construct a veteran’s memorial.

The Argyle Nature Trail is expected to be open from sunrise to sunset.

It will be part of the larger Town Center district, which hopes to bring a Main Street to the town.
