Local towns and cities want residents to not worry about their water quality because of some false social media claims.
Multiple times this summer, the town of Flower Mound issued news releases to assure residents that their water quality is tested often and has high ratings. Tuesday, the city of Highland Village also put out a statement saying that a sponsored message was spreading on social media, saying Highland Village’s water has traces of harmful chemicals and contaminants.
“There is no truth to these reports,” the city said in a news release. “Highland Village has been rated as a ‘Superior Public Water Supply’ from the TCEQ since 1996. This is the highest rating given to a water system. City technicians check Highland Village’s water on a daily basis and water samples are submitted weekly to a laboratory for bacterial analysis.”
Highland Village’s water supply comes from two sources, groundwater and purchased surface water from the Upper Trinity Regional Water District, according to the city, which has a 3-million-gallon-per-day subscription through the UTRWD that treats surface water obtained from Lake Lewisville. During the summer months, the city utilizes the groundwater to meet higher water demands due to summer irrigation.
Highland Village and the UTRWD both comply with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the US Environmental Protection Agency to test and provide an annual report on the quality of your water, here and here.
