Battle of the Badges softball tournament set for Oct. 20

Fire and police teams from across North Texas will come together for the 16th Annual Battle of the Badges softball tournament Saturday, Oct. 20 at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park.

Opening ceremony will begin at 7:30 a.m. The first game between Lewisville Fire Department and Lewisville Police Department will begin at 7:45 a.m.

The teams come from as far away as Garland and Arlington to compete in the day-long tournament for the chance to be the Battle of the Badges champion. Admission for spectators is free. In addition to softball games, the event will have activities for children.

The Lewisville Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (LCPAAA) is proud to continue this tradition, having hosted all 16 of the Battle of the Badges softball tournaments. The event benefits the LCPAAA and its mission to enhance relations between the Lewisville Police Department and the community.

A portion of the tournament proceeds also benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County. The mission of the CACDC is to provide justice and healing for abused children through inter-agency collaboration and community education.

Charity events such as the Battle of the Badges helps close the gap between available funding and funding needs. Both nonprofits rely heavily on donations from the community to continue its various programs and services. This year’s fundraising goal is $10,000.

For more information about Battle of the Badges, or to be a donor to the event, please visit LCPAAA.org or call LCPAAA president Heather Goodwin at 214.563.7413.
