Flower Mound and Highland Village firefighters were deployed Thursday to West Texas, according to the town of Flower Mound.

Flower Mound Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Funderburg, Captain Aaron Moore, and Firefighter Mark Kubena took a brush fire truck to Merkel, just west of Abilene, to provide support during historic fire conditions that are forecast in the area for Thursday and Friday.

The deployment was part of the Texas Intrastate Mutual Aid System and part of a larger strike team that included members from the Highland Village, Lewisville, Lake Cities, McKinney and Plano fire departments.

Once the crews arrive in Merkel, they will receive their assignment and may be deployed for up to seven days, according to the town.
