A doctor with more than 25 years of experience has been appointed as the new Health Authority and Medical Director of Denton County Public Health.

Dr. Marty Buchanan will take over for Dr. Benjamin Beall, who recently retired, according to a DCPH news release.

Buchanan has a degree from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, and he served as a primary care clinician with DCPH for more than the last two years.

“We’re thrilled to have Dr. Buchanan continue our important legacy of leadership and expertise on both population and individual health outcomes,” said Dr. Matt Richardson, Director of Public Health, in a prepared statement. “His voice is integral as we grow our visibility while serving our friends, families, and neighbors across the county.”

As Health Authority and Medical Director, Dr. Buchanan’s oversight will extend into the diverse clinical and programmatic services offered by DCPH, according to the news release. DCPH operates a spectrum of clinical care services while simultaneously administering case management, health education, emergency preparedness, and various other community health-focused programs.
