Flower Mound Town Councilman Steve Dixon announced Thursday night that he would not seek a third term this May.
Dixon said that he has been honored and privileged to serve the citizens of Flower Mound.
When asked if he had plans to run for mayor, Dixon replied, “Tom and I have had several talks about running for mayor” and “I [Dixon] would not run against Tom, but if Tom decided not to run, then I would run for mayor.
“Tom has been a very good friend and does a very good job,” added Dixon.
Dixon previously sat on council from 2009 to 2011 in Place 1. He took a year off and was elected to his current position in Place 4 after unseating Steve Lyda in May 2012. Dixon also served on several boards and commissions between 2004-2009 and is an active member of the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce.
In all, four council seats are up for election this May: Mayor; Place 2, held by Bryan Webb; Place 4; and the one year unexpired term for Place 1, currently being filled by former councilman Mark Wise, who said he will not run to keep his seat.
Councilman Bryan Webb announced in December that he will run for a third term in Place 2, and filed for his seat on Thursday.
Planning & Zoning Commissioner Don McDaniel also announced his intention to seek a council seat, but did not specify which seat he was considering and has not filed yet.
The filing period runs through Friday, February 19, at 5 p.m.
