The Denton County Sheriff’s SWAT team was called out to a family disturbance yesterday in Double Oak, resulting in one arrest.

Double Oak Police responded to a family disturbance call on Tuesday at 4:48 p.m. in the 100 block of Thornhill Circle.

Upon arrival officers were met outside the residence by a woman who explained that she and her husband, Scott Angel, had been involved in a verbal disturbance that ended with shots being fired.

Her husband is also alleged to have thrown, damaged and destroyed property within the home.

The dispute escalated to the point that Angel allegedly picked up a .45 caliber handgun and discharged multiple bullets, inside the residence, while his spouse was present.

Arriving officers established a perimeter and attempted multiple times to make telephone and verbal contact with Angel. He did not respond and was believed to have locked himself in a back room of the residence.

Denton County Sheriff’s Department tactical team officers and negotiators made contact with Angel and he voluntarily exited the bedroom and was taken into custody.

Double Oak Police recovered a .45 caliber pistol, multiple shell casings and documented significant property damage within the home.

Angel, 42, was arrested for Deadly Conduct-Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and transported to the Denton County Jail where he was held on $10,000 bond.
