Lantana’s newest resident has found a home that truly fits the bill.
A wild duck recently chose to nest and lay eggs in a patch of landscaping at the edge of the South Community Center Pool, just a few feet from the daily swimming, splashing and sunning of poolgoers.
After receiving calls from concerned residents, Lantana Community Association officials contacted the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and learned that it is against state and federal law to disturb native ducks while they are nesting.
So the duck family will be able to keep their poolside perch and will have extra eyes looking out for them. According to a notice posted on the Association’s website, “We have met with the lifeguard company and the lifeguards have been notified to keep children from disturbing the duck, nest or eggs. We ask that all parents help us teach Lantana children to respect the local wildlife.”
