Flower Mound 34, Wylie 14

The Flower Mound/Wylie game experienced a weather delay on Friday night, but the Jags managed to pull their season record even by the end of the night.

When the game did get started, Flower Mound poured it on quick, scoring 21 points in the first seven-and-a-half minutes of the first quarter.

Baron Sampson hit Carter Massey on a 59-yard touchdown pass to give the Jaguars a 7-0 lead, and Slate Dettweiler scored on a 1-yard run to make it 14-0 Flower Mound.

Sampson then connected with Tre Brown on a 76-yard bomb to give the Jags a 21-0 lead with 4:34 remaining in the first quarter.

At 9:23 of the second quarter, Ryan Watkins scored on a 1-yard run for Flower Mound to extend the Jaguars lead to 28 points.

Wylie got on the board late in the second quarter, and the score was 28-7 Flower Mound.

Sampson scored on a 1-yard keeper with 26 seconds remaining in the second quarter to make the score 34-7 Flower Mound at the half.

Wylie scored again with 5:50 remaining in the third quarter, but Flower Mound held the Pirates scoreless.

Flower Mound (1-1, 0-0) will host Lake Highlands at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 in its final non-district game.

Argyle 35, Midlothian Heritage 7

The Eagles struck early in their matchup with Midlothian Heritage on Friday night, ultimately holding the Jaguars to one score.

Argyle scored just 19 seconds into the game when Maguire Gasperson connected with Julian Caldwell on a 62-yard touchdown pass to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

The tandem proved to be lethal again midway through the second, as Gasperson hooked up with Caldwell a second time, this time for 59 yards to make it 14-0 Argyle which was the score at halftime.

In the third quarter, Gasperson and Caldwell paired up again with a 45-yard pass to give the Eagles a 21-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Gasperson connected with Julian Caldwell for 35 yards and their fourth touchdown of the night to make the score 28-0.

Heritage finally got on the board with 2:45 remaining in the third quarter to make it 28-7 Argyle, but the Eagles answered with 5:02 remaining in the fourth quarter when Obadiah Goble rushed for 24 yards for a touchdown.

Gasperson passed for 345 yards and 4 touchdowns while Caldwell finished with 10 receptions for 259 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Argyle (1-1, 0-0) will host Mansfield Timberview at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 in its district opener.

Guyer 41, Arlington Martin 21

The Wildcats jumped out to a 24-0 first quarter lead on Friday night and never looked back, defeating Arlington Martin by a score of 41-21.

Kaedyn Cobbs scored on a 7-yard touchdown run to get things started for Guyer, and less than two minutes later scored on a 4-yard run to make it 14-0 Wildcats.

With 4:40 to play in the first, Andrew Johnson kicked a 36-yard field goal to make it 17-0.

Cobbs tacked on a third touchdown with a 2-yard run with 0:42 to play in the quarter to give the Wildcats a 24-0 lead heading into the second.

Martin responded with 14 unanswered points in the second quarter, before Guyer made it 31-14 heading into the half on a fourth rushing touchdown from Cobbs for 5 yards.

The Warriors scored again with 4:31 to play in the third quarter to make the score 31-21 Guyer, but the Wildcats extended their lead to 13 points on a 48-yard field goal from Johnson.

With 8:28 to play in the game, Aiden Martens broke a 92-yard run to make the score 41-21 Guyer and seal the victory for the Wildcats.

Guyer (1-1, 0-0) will host North Crowley at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12.

Texarkana Texas 49, Liberty Christian 37

Jason Witten’s Liberty Christian football team remained winless with a loss to Texarkana Texas on Friday.

The Warriors took the first lead of the game on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Luke Langford to Cooper Witten.

Texas answered with a touchdown of its own to tie the game at 7.

Liberty responded early in the second quarter when Quinn Murphy scored on a 15-yard keeper to make it 13-7 LCS.

Texas came right back with a score of its own and led 14-13 early in the second quarter.

The Tigers scored again to take a 21-13 lead, but Liberty Christian responded when Murphy tossed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Langford.

The Warriors regained the lead with 2 minutes to play in the half when Murphy hit Witten on a 70-yard touchdown pass to make it 26-21 heading into the break.

Liberty Christian kicked a field goal a minute into the third quarter, and Texas came right back and scored to make it 29-27 Warriors before tying the game at 29 on a successful 2-point conversion attempt.

The Tigers took a 35-29 lead midway through the fourth quarter, and added another touchdown to make the score 42-29 a few minutes later.

Texas scored once more to make it 49-29, but Liberty Christian would not give up, scoring on a 4-yard pass from Murphy to Witten.

A successful 2-point conversion made the scored 49-37 Tigers.

Liberty Christian (0-2, 0-0) will play at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Decatur.

Arlington 7, Marcus 0 (Canceled)

The Marcus game against Arlington started late on Friday night due to a weather delay.

When things did get underway, the Colts struck first late in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.

The game went back into a weather delay for lightning shortly thereafter and was eventually canceled late in the second quarter. It will not be rescheduled and will not count toward either team’s records.

Marcus (1-0, 0-0) will play at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Richardson Pearce.

McKinney Christian 21, Coram Deo 14 (Suspended)

There was a lightning delay at the start of the Lions’ game on Friday night against McKinney Christian, and the game did not kick off until 9:21 p.m.

Jack Hamm scored on a 3-yard run to give the Lions an early lead in the game, but McKinney Christian scored with 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter to tie the game up at 7 a piece.

With 11 minutes to play in the second quarter, Hamm scored again, this time on a 7-yard run to regain the lead for Coram Deo.

The Mustangs tied the game up 3 minutes later and scored once more before the half to make it 21-14 McKinney Christian after two.

The game was suspended during halftime and coaches discussed rescheduling for Saturday, Sept. 6.

Coram Deo (0-1, 0-0) may resume its game with McKinney Christian and will host Shelton at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 12.

Lewisville 38, Byron Nelson 21

A strong second half lifted the Fighting Farmers to a 17-point victory on Thursday night in a game where the temperature was 98 degrees at kick off and cramping was a factor.

Following an opening drive that lasted more than eight minutes, it was Lewisville that drew first blood when Tre Williams hit Landon Bogany on a 14-yard touchdown pass, but a missed PAT made the score 6-0 Lewisville.

Under a minute into the second quarter, Lewisville kicker Declan Hamm drilled a 46-yard field goal to make it 9-0.

Nelson was forced to punt on the following drive, and Parker Almanza recovered a Lewisville fumble on the return.

Almanza then connected with Nolan Hawkins on a 56-yard touchdown pass to make the score 9-7 Lewisville.

With under two minutes to play, Almanza hooked up again with Hawkins on a 21-yard diving touchdown reception.

On the ensuing drive, Hawkins picked off a Lewisville pass to give the ball back to the Bobcats with 34 seconds remaining, and Nelson led 14-9 at the half.

Lewisville scored on its first drive of the third quarter when Williams hit Bogany on a 5-yard pass to make it 15-14.

Tenel Hill scored on a 2-point run to make it a 3-point lead for Lewisville.

Later in the third, Rodney Witherspoon intercepted a Lewisville pass to give Nelson the ball trailing by 3 points.

On the ensuing drive, Jason Cooper forced a fumble that Lewisville recovered, and the Farmers scored when Williams hit Landon Brazzell on a 3-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-14 Lewisville with under 4 minutes to play in the third quarter.

Williams would later hit Traejan Meuller on a 53-yard pass to make it 31-14 with just over a minute to play in the third quarter.

Nelson cut the deficit to 10 points when Almanza hit Reid Williams on an 8-yard touchdown pass to make it 31-21 Farmers.

Lewisville then pulled off a trick play, as Williams completed a pass to Meuller who immediately pitched the ball back to Brazell in a hook and lateral.

Brazell scored on a 45-yard touchdown completion to make give the Farmers a 17-point lead with 8:32 to play in the game.

Lewisville defensive back Malik Sorrells intercepted a pass on the following drive, and though Nelson got the ball back again, Deuce Mathis intercepted a Nelson pass to effectively end the game.

Lewisville (2-0, 0-0) will play at 7 p.m. at Rockwall on Sept. 11 and Nelson (1-1, 0-0) will play at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 when they host Southlake Carroll in its district opener.

Northwest 23, McKinney North 9

It was a battle of field goals on Thursday night, but Northwest broke through late and won 23-9 on the road.

McKinney North jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter, but the Texans answered with 1:15 left in the quarter when Brody Rauch kicked a 35-yard field goal to knot the game at 3 each.

Early in the second quarter, North regained the lead with another field goal, but Roach booted a 29-yard field goal with 0:07 remaining in the quarter to tie the game 6-6 at the break.

The Bulldogs scored again on a field goal with 6:36 to play in the third quarter and led 9-6 heading into the fourth.

Under two minutes into the fourth quarter, Mark Hartman connected with Nic Curley on a 54-yard touchdown pass to give the Texans a 13-9 lead.

Caris Sela then broke a 41-yard touchdown run to extend Northwest’s lead to 11 points.

Rauch tacked on a 31-yard field goal late in the fourth to make it 23-9 Texans.

Northwest (1-1,0-0) will play at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Keller to open district play.
