Sheriff’s Office hosting Citizen Academy

Local residents can still register for the Denton County Sheriff’s Office spring Citizen Academy.

The Citizen Academy is a 10-week program designed to open the lines of communication between the DCSO and the community, according to a DCSO news release about a previous Citizen Academy.

“It is the sincere desire of the Denton County Sheriff’s Office to develop a style of policing that reflects a collaborative effort between the community and police,” the news release said. “This process requires an informed citizenry and it is the goal of the Academy to increase ‘understanding through education.’”

The program gives participants a comprehensive overview of the DCSO “and the critical role citizens play in our community crime control efforts.” Each class is led by a Denton County expert in their field.

Anyone 18 years old or older who lives or works in Denton County is eligible to attend the academy, which begins on March 18 and will be held on Monday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. Each class is limited to 24 people.
