As the Liberty Christian Warriors took the field for its game against Midland Christian Friday night, they began play on a field donning the name of a former head coach.
The Warriors will now play on Witten Family Field at Warrior Stadium, the school announced on social media Friday evening.

It’s a dedication to Jason Witten, who coached the Warriors for five seasons before announcing in January that he would be heading to a coaching position with the University of Oklahoma.
However, the honor is for more than just what Witten has done on the field.
This honor is for a family whose impact on Liberty Christian School has been felt for more than 15 years,” said the school in the post. “Jason, Michelle and the entire Witten family embraced a vision that helped strengthen not only Liberty football, but the Warrior community as a whole.”
During his tenure, Witten led the Warriors to a back-to-back TAPPS State Championships in 2023 and 2024, with another deep run in the playoffs in 2025.
In his last four years, the Warriors held an overall record of 44-7.
“Through [the Witten family’s] leadership, generosity, relationships and love for Liberty, they helped make Friday nights a gathering place for students, families, alumni and friends – a place where Warrior spirit came alive,” said the school. “Thank you, Witten family, for the many ways you have invested in Liberty Christian School and for the lasting legacy your family has helped create.”
Witten was named TAPPS District Coach of the Year in each of those seasons and received TAPPS State Coach of the Year in 2023.
He was also recognized as Whataburger Coach of the Year and earned a nomination for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year in 2023.
Witten was also recently announced as a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026.
Liberty Christian’s football team opened its season against Midland Christian Friday night under new head coach Josh Martin, who previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska.
The Warriors opened their first game of the season with a 42-35 lead at halftime, with a lot more season to go. Witten’s son, Cooper, is expected to play a big role in the team’s 2026 season before he graduates and heads to play college ball at the University of Oklahoma.
