The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission on Friday announced nearly $31 million in local park grants, including $750,000 for a future park in Flower Mound.
The competitive grants are allocated to local government entities on a 50/50 reimbursement match basis, according to a TPWC news release. Once funded, the sites must remain parkland in perpetuity, properly maintained and open to the public.
Flower Mound received a $750,000 non-urban outdoor grant for development at Trotter Park. The 13.11-acre undeveloped park property is located at 4551 Cross Timbers Road, between Flower Mound Road and Bruton Orand Boulevard. The town received the parkland in a deed from Toll Brothers in 2020. The town had previously wanted to put a tennis center there, but voters in May 2023 rejected a proposed $7.5 million bond election, prompting the town to move forward with a different plan.
In July 2024, the Flower Mound Town Council approved the Trotter Park master plan, which calls for two tennis courts, 12 pickleball courts, one basketball court, a playground, half-mile multi-use trail, and more.
The TPWC awarded one other grant for a park in Denton County: a $750,000 non-urban outdoor grant for the Lily Cantú inclusive playground project in Denton, which includes inclusive playground equipment and surfacing along with native landscaping.
