Robson Ranch Rambler — January 2024

Are we too old for new beginnings? Never! The spiritual meaning is “a time to start over.” As I have been thinking about this, I don’t need to go that far. The secular meaning is to keep the important things in your life while adding something that will make it better. That, I can subscribe to in 2024. At Robson Ranch, we can explore new activities that nurture the mind, body and soul.

Bridge is the ultimate partnership game, a game of skill, communication and infinite possibilities. Bridge players jokingly state that it is more difficult to find a suitable bridge partner than a good spouse. Sanctioned American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) play started at Robson in 2006. Robson Ranch Duplicate Bridge Club has grown to over 60 members and has several players who have achieved the lofty goal of Life Master. The club holds weekly ACBL-sanctioned games on Mondays and Fridays at 12:30 p.m., and on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. Members of the club range in skill from beginners to advanced players, and all bridge players are welcome. You do not need to be a member of the ACBL to play. Age is not really a factor in learning to play bridge. If you enjoy solving puzzles and working with a partner, you can learn to play bridge.

If you want to expand your horizons from a ringside seat, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNT is your ticket. This educational program provides lectures on diverse and thought provoking subjects at Robson Ranch. There are no prerequisites, mandatory assignments, or tests with their non-credit courses. Check out membership on the Robson Ranch HOA website.

Of course, we all have health and fitness goals. At Robson Ranch, we can literally step outside our door and take a walk or take a short drive to the two sport centers to take advantage of every kind of physical activity. There are pickleball, tennis, softball, volleyball, Ping Pong, Bocce, Texas Toss, numerous fitness classes, line dancing, ballet, tap, T’ai Chi, water aerobics, water volleyball, horseshoes, numerous Yoga classes, state-of-the-art exercise equipment and more. We have no excuses! I am going on record to challenge myself to incorporate more physical activity into each week in 2024. Join me?

We can feed our souls in countless ways at Robson Ranch. New Life Church and Fellowship at the Ranch Church meets every Sunday in the Clubhouse. Membership in Kiwanis Club, Support Our Troops, the After Schoolers and Women’s Club, to name a few, gives us ways to help our community and beyond and do it together. Baby Boomers and Singles enjoy each other’s company on a weekly basis. Other groups of like-minded residents gather monthly for refreshments and camaraderie.

The CDC officially called the pandemic to an end on May 11, 2023. We have turned a corner. My plan is to keep the good stuff from the past and add new stuff to make my life and the lives of others better. Hoping the New Year finds you inspired to pursue your goals.
