Jean Hillyer to lead Double Oak with integrity & fiscally responsible service

Jean Hillyer, Double Oak Town Council member announced her candidacy for Mayor of Double Oak.

Jean began her public service in Double Oak as an active member of the Roads & Drainage Committee prior to running for a seat on the Town Council. She has continued active engagement most recently successfully bringing a comprehensive drainage study for Double Oak to the Town Council for final approval and funding.

As a Town Council member Jean listens to resident concerns, researches, evaluates and then acts in the best interests of the town. Jean is an active member of the Technology Committee having achieved CJIS 4 certification. Technology is the backbone of Double Oak’s operations including providing essential police operations that require equipment upgrades, supported by Jean, to remain compatible with Denton County 911 service. Jeans engagement with the Technology Committee resulted in Town Council approval to upgrade the computer system used to livestream town council meetings.

Jean worked closely with the police department to understand the challenges of hiring and retaining patrol officers during a continuing national shortage resulting in strong support during the 2022-2023 budget process for raising salaries and maintaining benefits that has resulted in filling all but one vacancy.

Jean actively engages with the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department, serving as the Town Council liaison, recipient of the DOVFD 2022 Mabra Community Service award, riding along when Santa Claus visited Double Oak, and understanding the rigorous requirements for volunteer education and training to keep residents safe.

Jean and her husband Dave have lived in Double Oak since 2013. They have two children and 5 grandchildren. Jean and Dave are both retired and are active in their church participating in special projects. Dave enjoys fishing and making keepsake boxes in his workshop. Jean enjoys gardening, reading and time with family and looks forward to continuing the family tradition of volunteer public service.

Please vote for Jean Hillyer for Double Oak mayor. As a retiree, Jean has the time to work closely with town staff. She is looking forward to continue serving Double Oak with integrity to maintain the family friendly, safe community atmosphere that the founders of Double Oak envisioned while focusing on fiscally responsible expenditure of town funds to provide essential services.

Early voting begins on April 24th. Election Day is May 6th. All early voting and Election Day voting will be held at Double Oak Town Hall at 320 Waketon Road. Visit votedenton.gov for more information.
