The Northwest Metroport Chamber of Commerce announced this week that it is changing its name to simply Metroport Chamber.
With roots as the Roanoke Business Association, the chamber incorporated as the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce in 1988. The chamber expanded in the early 1990s with the inclusion of the town of Trophy Club and the town of Westlake and was known as the Roanoke Trophy Club Westlake Chamber of Commerce for many years, according to a news release from the chamber. In 2003, the city of Haslet and the town of Northlake joined the chamber, and it was renamed the Northwest Metroport Chamber of Commerce. The city of Justin joined in 2004 followed by the town of Argyle in 2015.
The term ‘Metroport’ refers to the metropolitan region between DFW Airport and Alliance Airport, according to the release. Over the years, the name has organically transitioned to the shorter Metroport Chamber by members of the business community. The Chamber will officially embrace the new name on Jan. 1.
