Family is very important to me, so on September 28th, I was honored to host a fundraising event for 29 Acres, a non-profit organization that provides housing for young adults with autism. My brother, comedian Kirk Smith, kicked-off the event at Marty B’s restaurant and afterwards, 100 attendees enjoyed a barbequed meal and danced to live music with two-step instructors.
This charity is very close to my heart. My brother’s son is severely autistic, so I know first-hand the challenges faced by those living with autism. This was our first event for 29 Acres, but we look forward to hosting many more in the future.
Kirk and staff from 29 Acres talked about some great local initiatives. I was certainly inspired by all their amazing work. We smashed the original target of $5,000 and raised $6,745 for the organization. After dinner, and jokes from Kirk, we dusted off our boots and danced the night away together.
