If you have driven Copper Canyon Road from FM 407 lately you probably noticed how nice the right-of-way looks. A big thank you to Peter Vickery for donating his time to keep Copper Canyon beautiful.
Mayor Pro Tem Bill Castleman, Deputy Tony Glover, and Town Administrator Donna Welsh met last month with Denton Sheriff’s Office personnel to discuss the Neighborhood Crime Watch. With all the surrounding development in the North Texas area, it is even more important to be aware of what is going on around us and work to keep our neighborhoods safe.
Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Valerie Cannaday and Council Member Robin Douglas-Davis have been meeting with town planners on updating the current Master Plan. The first meeting of the committee was Wednesday, September 25th and the committee discussed a plan to move forward on updating the 2020 Master Plan for Copper Canyon.
Council Member Steve Hill has been working with staff and financial advisors on the town proforma. The plan will be updated based on several factors including the Toll Brothers development, Vickery Park, which will begin in late 2020. There are two smaller development projects that have been approved for a total of twenty-two new homes in Copper Canyon. The town is also planning a large road improvement program in 2020.
Council Member Ted Stranczek has been working closely with the Town Engineer by driving Copper Canyon’s roads and identifying areas in need of repair or replacement as well as much needed bridge work. Council Member Stranczek is also working with the Town Engineer on drainage issues within the town.
The staff has been very busy implementing a new software suite called Fundview. In the past, staff has worked with various software programs that are not integrated. It is not only costly to pay license fees on separate programs; it requires manual transactions to work within the programs. The new software integrates Municipal Court, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, cash receipting and several other areas. The new software will help our staff operate more efficiently and allow the town to be more transparent in all financial areas.
Just a reminder Copper Canyon’s Town Council meetings are the second Monday of every month beginning at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 400 Woodland Drive. Attending these meetings allows residents to have a voice on the progress of our town and stay informed on developments. The agenda for the meetings are posted on the Copper Canyon website at www.coppercanyon-tx.org at the end of the week prior to the meeting. I encourage you to participate to become aware of the exciting things going on in Copper Canyon.
