FMHS student president keeps busy, in and out of school

Isabelle Capua

Isabelle Capua wanted to make the most of her high school experience.

The Student Council President and former Flower Mound High School volleyball player said she knew that in order to do that, she would need to take advantage of an environment that promotes student engagement.

“I’ve enjoyed attending FMHS, because of the teachers’ involvement in the student’s academic success and sporting events,” Capua said. “Also, the lively student section makes sporting events really fun.”

Capua, 17, is also a member of the English Honor Society at FMHS, serves as a Kindness Ambassador and holds down part-time jobs at Sonic and as a nanny for three children.

The Flower Mound teen said she does not feel overwhelmed.

“I enjoy being so involved, because I get to meet new people and make new friends,” Capua said. “In student council, I was given the opportunity to be Senior Class President and I’m excited to spread school spirit.”

Capua is also part of an organization called Love Thy Neighbor, a charity that provides assistance to lower income residents. She is also a member of her church youth group.

The Flower Mound senior carries a 3.89 grade point average and said– in spite of her accomplishments in life– there is one common phenomenon for her generation with which she has had her difficulties.

“The most difficult thing about being a young person today is social media,” Capua said. “It allows us to compare ourselves to others, when we should be happy and true to ourselves.”

Conversely, Capua said the same technological advancement that allowed for social media has also been a great force for good in her world.

“The best thing today is the new opportunities that are provided for us,” Capua said. “Schools today have more resources to help us plan what we want to do for our future career.”

Capua plans to attend Texas Christian University after graduating high school and major in Kinesiology.
