Around Argyle — February 2019

Argyle Mayor Donald Moser

Valentine’s Day is upon us so do not forget to show the special one in your life how much they mean to you.

I am sad to announce the resignation of Councilman Todd Mankin. We are very sad to see him go as he has been a crucial part of this council since May 2017 and will be truly missed. His resignation means Place 4 would be vacant until the May election. We chose to appoint Dr. Cindy Hermann for the duration of his term.

Dr. Hermann is originally from south Texas. She and her family relocated to Argyle from Kentucky 9 years ago. She has an MD from Texas Tech in 2002 and an MBA in Strategic Management from UNT in 2017. She is currently employed at UNT Student Health and Wellness Center and has been there since 2011.

She states her reason for wanting to serve on the council: “I believe in the work being done by the current council and have seen many positive changes over the last two years. I am excited to be a part of that change and work with everyone to achieve our common goal of making Argyle the best place to live in Texas!”

We continue to make progress toward the major improvements to Crawford Road. Our Town Staff continues to work out the final details with the City of Denton and Denton County. It has been a long time coming but we continue moving forward. Both Commissioner Dianne Edmondson and I are committed to seeing this project through.

As our schedule continues to fill up for the coming months, we have planned several workshops. A couple of these will include the Planning and Zoning Commission and our Economic Development Corporation. These workshops will assist in the development of a strategic plan for the town and implement goals and benchmarks.

Just as a reminder, I will be at Town Hall on the first Saturday of every month at 9 a.m. for “Mornings with the Mayor.” This is a time for citizens to get to know me as well as talk about any issues that may be on your mind. I always try to have a topic in mind for the day but that is not set in stone. Please come out and join me for some conversation, coffee and donuts.

As always, we are committed to serving the citizens of Argyle with the utmost Integrity and Transparency. My philosophy is to “Serve the Common Good with a Common Goal and Common Sense.”

Seniors Update

The seniors meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week at Town Hall, 308 Denton Street at 10 a.m. to exercise and 10:30 to play cards.

The next luncheon will be on Friday, March 15 at 12 noon. We are having as a guest a group from Denton that will be singing for us. Everyone is asked to double up on your covered side dish. There will be 32 coming.

We still don’t have a President so if you are interested in filling this position contact either Stella McDaniel at (940) 464-7438 or Karen Kiel at (940) 464-0506.
