State Rep. Tan Parker, R-Flower Mound, announced Monday that he has ended his campaign for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.
Parker announced his candidacy for the position seven months ago, but in the past few days, he and two other candidates have dropped their bids and endorsed Dennis Bonnen, R-Angleton.
“Throughout my time in the Texas House, I have worked closely with Representative Dennis Bonnen and respect him as a leader, public servant and a close friend,” Parker said in a prepared statement. “Dennis and I have had many great conversations, and I am confident that we share the same vision for the future of Texas. Therefore, today, I have decided to end my campaign and commit my full support to Dennis Bonnen as the next Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.”
State Reps. Four Price of Amarillo and Phil King of Weatherford announced Sunday that they were also withdrawing their bids and endorsing Bonnen, according to the Texas Tribune. Republicans Travis Clardy of Nacogdoches and Drew Darby of San Angelo are also running for speaker, as is Democrat Eric Johnson of Dallas,
