Coram Deo grad felt sense of community

Claire Swank

Claire Swank believes it is important to be a well-rounded person.

The Coram Deo graduate was Salutatorian of her graduating class, a First Lieutenant in the symphonic and jazz bands and Senior Class President for the class of 2018.

Swank, 17, has also played softball, volleyball and tennis at CDA, and said that she is grateful for all of the opportunities that Coram Deo offered her as a student.

“By being a part of several groups, I got to meet more people both older and younger that I probably would not have run into otherwise,” Swank said. “I got a wider sense of the community at Coram Deo and experienced different challenges and adventures with each group.”

The Flower Mound teen graduated with a 4.0 GPA at Coram Deo Academy and was ranked second in her graduating class, something Swank said makes her very proud.

“It gave me a great sense of accomplishment for all of the effort I had put into my classes,” Swank said. “I was honored to represent my class in this way.”

Swank said participation in so many extracurricular activities has been beneficial to her, but added that band stands out as her favorite.

“It is a very relaxing and fun atmosphere, but everyone still works hard to make music together,” Swank said. “It is that teamwork which formed some of the greatest friendships I have, as we traveled to several different competitions and performances.”

Swank said one of her favorite pastimes is skiing, and said she and her family make a yearly trip to the mountains to ski.

The Coram Deo Alum volunteers her time at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital and is headed to the University of Oklahoma where she plans to study nursing.
