LETTERS: Denton ISD bond, board election

In Support of Denton ISD Bond

For almost 21 years now I have had the privilege of being the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Denton.  During those 21 years my wife and I have raised our two children here and they have both graduated from Ryan High School.  I’m proud to say they each have graduated from college as well.  They have been successful in large part because of the education they received in Denton ISD schools.  On May 5th we have the opportunity to assure that future students are as successful in their education as my kids were.  The Denton ISD bond package will address the safety of our children, growth in the district and equity in some of our older schools.  There will be NO TAX RATE INCREASE as a result of this bond package!  Our school district has been extremely responsible in using our tax dollars wisely and this bond is no exception.  I urge you to join me in voting FOR this bond package and for the children of the Denton ISD.

Burns Most Qualified

I am supporting Barbara Burns for Denton ISD School Board. She is by far the most qualified and knowledgeable candidate. Barbara, unlike her opponents, knows DISD very well. She, as a parent, teacher and citizen has given innumerable hours to the district over many years, well beyond participating in her own children’s school activities. She listens, asks questions and welcomes input from all. From her time on the DISD school board she knows the importance of doing her homework. She attends meetings ready to engage with her colleagues and contribute her informed perspective. Barbara clearly understands that just talking won’t provide effective leadership for our district. She is a principled and informed public servant who is dedicated to providing excellent educational opportunities for all DISD students. Please join me in voting for Barbara Burns!

Change Needed On School Board

There are some great candidates running for the Denton School Board in the May election. We need to elect two new members to the board that actually have kids in the school system. The incumbents that are running have not had kids in the school system for quite some time now.  The incumbents are the people who voted in the worst grading policy ever seen. It does not hold students accountable for their work. This needs to be changed. Please vote for Brad Fritcher in Place 1 and David Shuck in Place 2. It’s time for some new faces on the Denton School Board that actually know what is going on in the schools.
