Highland Village is No. 3 safest city in Texas, study says

Highland Village and Flower Mound scored highly in a new study of the safest cities in Texas.

The study was commissioned and released Tuesday by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, a trade association comprised of home security professionals across the United States.

The organization reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics and its own population data and internal research. NCHSS eliminated any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and removed cities with populations under 10,000.

The cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 people. Violent crimes were weighted 1.5 times that of property crimes.

Highland Village came in No. 3, and Flower Mound ranked No. 9. North Texas dominated the top of the list, with Colleyville ranking No. 1, Keller No. 2 and Trophy Club No. 4.
