The Lewisville Independent School District Education Foundation joined with restaurants throughout the community and the Hilton Garden Inn in Lewisville to put on an exceptional event Saturday, the Dr. Seuss-themed “Oh the Places We’ll Go” Evening for Education. More than 500 people attended, and the event raised $158,000 for LISD students and teachers.

With 21 participating restaurants, patrons had their choice of top quality food throughout the evening. As dinner progressed, attendees bid on a silent auction with a live auction that started after everyone had an opportunity to dine. The night ended with dancing to the music of, Limelight, “Dallas’ Best Band” as declared by The Dallas Morning News.

Restaurants at the event competed for the best appetizer, entrée, dessert and display as voted on by those in attendance. Fish City Grill took home the award for the best appetizer while Verf’s Tavern & Grill won best entrée. Savory Bistro – Gourmet-To-Go had the best dessert at the event while Bistecca – An Italian Steakhouse, owned by Honorary Chair Chef Morris Salerno, won the award for best display.

The silent auction included a number of items made by LISD students throughout the school district and the 13 communities it serves. In addition, there were spirit packages for each high school’s sports teams, a signed Bo Jackson Oakland Raiders helmet, tickets to a concert featuring the Counting Crows and Rob Thomas, a basketball signed by Magic Johnson and other items in categories like Entertainment and Adventure, Health and Beauty, Jewelry and Fashion, Wine and Dine, Collectables, Home Décor and more.

Meanwhile, the live auction featured trips to Vegas, Napa Valley, Mexico, San Antonio, Santa Fe, N.M., personal cooking classes with Salerno, a day of training with the Lewisville Police SWAT and other rare, outstanding items.

The most important item featured in the auction, however, was the opportunity to fund a child in the LISD. Multiple attendees of Evening For Education stood up and made their donations at various levels to remind everyone in attendance the true purpose of the night.

After awarding 263 scholarships totaling $170,000 and 50 teacher grants totaling $76,525 this past year with proceeds from the 2015 Evening For Education, LEF is looking forward to another great year of support for LISD students and teachers.
