Area officials and residents celebrated the groundbreaking of Flower Mound’s first ever dog park Friday evening. The park, located on Garden Ridge Boulevard between Spinks Road and FM 3040, is expected to be opened this coming fall.
There will be a parking area and the park will be divided by a bridge into two specific sections. That way, when one area is being trampled by dog paws, the other side can be growing fresh grass.
“It’s great finally be able to make this happen,” said Flower Mound Mayor Tom Hayden, to the guests gathered under a tent on the sultry summer evening.
Hayden thanked current and past civic leaders, and residents, including Elizabeth Covington, who was instrumental in getting the dog park project moving forward.
“I have made some of my best friends walking my dog or at the dog park,” Covington said. She spoke to the crowd wearing a t-shirt with a photo of her dear departed dog Patty.
“Truly dog owners are top of the line,” she said.
