Family Smiles Dental Group has long been a part of the fabric of The Town of Flower Mound.
Opened in 1983, the family-owned dental office is committed to providing quality, individualized customer service to ensure the best oral health, says Dr. Jared Terry.
That commitment is evident with Family Smiles’ dedication to educating the community about oral cancer.
After the recent passing of an employee’s father from oral cancer, Dr. Terry has made it his mission to help residents and patients understand how easy and affordable it can be to find potential cancer issues before they become life threatening.
Using the latest available screening technology from Forward Science Technologies LLC, the manufacturer of OralID and CytID, Family Smiles Dental Group can offer early detection of oral cancer.
Dr. Terry says research has linked oral cancer to environmental, socioeconomic, genetic and varied health factors beyond what was initially believed to be common causes such as nicotine and alcohol use.
“We see it in both younger and older generations,” he said.
Statistics indicate that oral cancer kills one American every hour. Early detection is critical, he says, and the latest technology makes early detection scanning affordable.
Dr. Terry, originally from Idaho, bought the Flower Mound practice in December 2012. His staff, several of whom have worked together for decades, are committed to providing quality service in a comfortable, caring atmosphere.
His staff includes: Rhonda Cash, office manager; Minnie Metzger, receptionist; Julie Billings, hygiene coordinator; Debbie Sherer, dental assistant; and Bethany Singleton, hygienist.
A graduate of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Terry has practiced in Idaho and Texas, relocating to the area in March 2011.
An avid outdoorsman who enjoys running marathons, Dr. Terry says he feels fortunate to be a part of the community and providing a needed service.
“I like to treat everybody as an individual,” he said. “I like to get to know patients and get an idea of how we can help them reach their dental goals.”
