Heavy rain causes traffic delays, flooding

Torrential rain dumped around 4 inches on Denton County Wednesday shutting down a handful of area roads due to high water.

DFW Airport recorded 4.26 inches of rain as of 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Justin had 4.21 inches, and Denton Municipal Airport logged 3.49 inches.

North Texas set an all-time record for rainfall in a 24-hour period in January, according to the National Weather Service.

Roads that are affected due to flooding in southwest Denton County as of Thursday afternoon:

Jackson Rd – West – CLOSED

Jim Chrystal @ mouse hole – OPEN
West County Line Rd – OPEN
Old Alton @ FM 2181 – OPEN
Copper Canyon @ RR Crossing – OPEN
Hill Top Rd (between Old Alton @ Macaway) – OPEN
Britt Rd @ Creek – OPEN
Tim Donald Rd between FM 1384 & Strader – OPEN

A Flood Warning remains in effect for Denton Creek near Justin.
