FMHS names new head football coach

The Lewisville Independent School District announced today the appointment of Dane Johnson as the new athletic coordinator and head football coach at Flower Mound High School.

Johnson, 37, comes to LISD from Boerne ISD, where he helped open Boerne High School in 2009. In their second varsity season, Boerne was a 3-A bi-district finalist in 2011.

Before coaching at Boerne HS, Johnson was the defensive coordinator, varsity sprinters coach and history teacher at Hebron High School from 2004-2008.

During his tenure at Hebron, the Hawks were District Champions from 2004-2008 and won the State 4A Division II Championship in 2007. Additionally, from 2004-2006 and in 2008, Hebron High School had the #1 rated defense in the district.

Johnson began his career in education in 2001 as a coach and history teacher at Allen High School. From 2001-2003, Allen High School won the District 9-5A Championship, as well as advancing to regional and area competitions.

Johnson played basketball and football for Southlake Carroll and football at Texas Tech.

“Coach Johnson has a track record of excellence and we look forward to him bringing that success to our campus, community and district,” said Flower Mound High School Principal Sonya Lail.

Johnson replaces Cody Vanderford, who established Flower Mound’s football program 12 years ago and had a 60-64 record.
