School to recognize mayor

Dr. Scott R. McDearmont, local surgeon and mayor of Highland Village, will be recognized Monday as the inaugural inductee into the Marcus High School alumni Hall of Fame.

McDearmont will be honored at the Silver Circle Ceremony this Monday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m. at Marauder Stadium.

“It extremely humbling to be honored by my alma mater, Marcus High School.  I came back to this community to start my practice because it is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.  I want to thank the committee for this honor and I feel truly blessed to be a member of this community,” said McDearmont.

“This honor is shared with all members of the charter graduating class of 1988. We set so many traditions that still exist today. I am proud to be a graduate of Marcus and treasure the drive for excellence in LISD that exists to this day.”

Hall of Fame nominations were received and reviewed by a committee at Marcus chaired by Principal Gary Shafferman.

McDearmont has lived in Denton County since 1984.  He graduated from Marcus in Flower Mound with the charter class of 1988 and continued his education at Texas A&M University and UT Southwestern Medical School.

Since starting his surgical practice in 2001, he has been heavily involved in the local community, including service on the Highland Village city council since 2006 and currently as mayor of Highland Village.  McDearmont and his family have lived in Highland Village since 2002 and his children attend LISD schools.
