Local man battles for spot on ‘Spartacus’

A Flower Mound man is a finalist in a national contest for a role in the STARZ hit TV series “Spartacus”, and he needs your vote to make his small screen dreams come true.

Joe Solinski recently learned about the contest, sponsored by Met-Rx, a nutrition supplement company, and submitted his “Warrior Workout” video. He beat out thousands of entries to place in the Top 10.

Solinski, owner of Stone & Glazing Consulting in Lewisville, said that he has been a fitness enthusiast since he was in high school.

With the support of his wife Tammy, also a fitness enthusiast, 16-year-old daughter Susan, and 12-year-old son Cooper, Solinski started filming some of his routine workouts from a hand held camera on a small tripod.

Solinski can be seen at Jesse James Fit in Flower Mound jumping, hanging, balancing on balls while lifting weights, and doing pull-ups in unusual ways.

“I do all this stuff on a routine basis, and never thought I would get it on video, much less submit it for a contest”, said Solinski. “I used iMovie on my laptop to create the 60 second video, and tried to be creative with the visual cuts, music and sound bites”.

Solinski also recently won first place in the 2011 NPC Ronnie Coleman Classic Bodybuilding Contest held in Mesquite, Texas.

“It was my first contest since 1986, and wanted to be there to support my wife Tammy, who was also competing in the contest.  At 48-years-old, I am very proud of my wife and I to be in good enough physical condition to get on stage with a bunch of 20 year olds!  We also want to show our kids that being fit is fun and is something you can do for the rest of your life!!”

The winner will be determined by online voting through Facebook. See Solinski’s entry video at http://metrxvideocontest.dja.com/voting/video_detail.php?id=417 to vote or go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL4kfGCcIPc to watch the HD version. Facebook fans have until May 31st to vote.
