Denton bank robbery suspect arrested in Georgia

The suspect accused of robbing two banks in Denton before Christmas was arrested Wednesday in Georgia.

The Denton Police Department released surveillance images of the suspect, who was accused of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank in the 600 block of West University Drive on Dec. 20 and a Chase Bank in the 2300 block of Colorado Boulevard on Dec. 22. A citizen recognized the suspect and told investigators his name, according to a DPD news release. On Dec. 31, DPD investigators obtained arrest warrants for the suspect, 36-year-old Walter Cobb.

On Wednesday, one of the Brookhaven Police Department’s license plate reading device alerted officers that a bank robbery suspect was in the city of Brookhaven, a suburb of Atlanta, and police quickly responded to the area, located the suspect and arrested Cobb.

Cobb was driving with a suspended license and a faulty brake light, he was in possession of marijuana and police believe he was driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the news release.

Cobb was arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Jail on the traffic-related charges, and he will be held for the bank robbery charges in Denton. There is a $150,000 bond for each of the robbery warrants. According to jail records, Cobb lives in Warrenton, Georgia, about an hour-and-a-half east of Atlanta. It was not immediately clear why he was in Denton before Christmas.
