Denton County wants residents to know about an increased number of reports of a phone scam.
The jury-related scam typically has someone calling the victim, falsely posing as a county entity, requesting money under the threat of potential jail time.
“Cases where residents could be fined are handled in person with proper notice from a court and with a judge, NEVER over the phone with payments through gift cards or personal debit/credit cards,” the county said in a statement on Friday.
If you have questions or think you might have been contacted by a scammer, call 940-349-2230 for verification.
