Golf tournament in memory of former Marcus student supports scholarships

Max Schwolert

The 5th annual LOVE to the MAX Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, June 8 at Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound.

It honors Max Schwolert, the former Bridlewood caddie and Marcus High School student who passed away from complications with the flu on Dec. 29, 2012 at age 17.

Proceeds help fund $5,000 college scholarships for current Marcus students to carry on his desire to make a difference in the world.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with a silent auction followed by lunch. After the 1 p.m. shotgun start tournament concludes, there will be a dinner with special prizes and presentation of this year’s scholarship.

Event organizers hope to raise $15,000 through the tournament, donations, shirt sales and a new feature where female professional golfers will challenge participants to beat them on a par-3 hole.

“Because it’s a local scholarship we’re not going to bring people from all over but it’s a great community event,” said Tom Schwolert, Max’s father and co-director with wife, Melanie. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Individuals or businesses interested in participating can register at golovetothemax.org. Those wanting to volunteer, donate prizes or auction items or become a sponsor can call Tom Schwolert at 214-995-1720 or email [email protected]
