Northwest ISD to host board candidate forum

Northwest ISD will host a forum next week for Board of Trustees candidates to answer the community’s questions.

Individuals running for the vacant position on the Northwest ISD Board of Trustees will answer questions at 6:30 p.m. on April 16 at Northwest High School, according to Northwest ISD.

The forum, hosted by the Northwest ISD Council of PTAs, will take place in the school library, and attendees will have the opportunity to write questions when they arrive. Candidates will answer questions during the forum for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, followed by a short reception with light refreshments when it concludes.

In February, Place 1 Trustee Josh Wright resigned from his post because he is moving to Austin for a new job. Rather than appoint someone to replace Wright, the board called a special election to fill the seat, which will expire in 2021. The candidates to be on the ballot include Marty Baylor, Peter Dewing, DeAnne Hatfield and Torie Stephens Bonty. Registered voters can cast ballots during early voting from April 22-30 or on Election Day, May 4.

Members of NHSTV, Northwest High School’s student-run TV station, will record the event with plans to publish the recording before the election.
