Denton County Public Health reported Thursday a “significant increase in mosquito populations throughout Denton County’s mosquito traps,” according to a news release.
DCPH is encouraging residents to take precaution when they’re outside.
“In countywide sampling, we are seeing up to 10 times the number of mosquitoes collected this week compared to previous week,” said Matt Richardson, director of Public Health.
There have been five traps in Denton County with mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus, and one human case of West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease, this year, according to DCPH.
DCPH encourages residents to use mosquito repellent when outside for the coming weeks, as well as dressing in long sleeves and pants and draining standing water in their yard.
