Around Argyle — August 2018

Argyle Mayor Donald Moser

By Don Moser

August is here, and we have already set several records in the heat department. While we are excited for our schools to be setting records, not so much about the heat. Always be mindful of your pets and animals in this heat. Be sure to have plenty of shade and water for them. When you are taking them for walks, remember how hot the sidewalks and streets are on the little paws. My vet told me he has seen several cases of dogs with burned paws already this season.

We are happy to announce the first “Argyle Movie in the Park.” Join us as we host a Classic Animated Movie Night on Saturday, September 22. What movie will we be showing? It will be viewer’s choice! See the poll on the Discussion tab of the town’s Facebook event page to vote for the movie you would like to see. Voting closes on August 24th. Bring your own chairs, blankets and drinks. Popcorn and cotton candy will be provided and there will be a raffle for prizes. I will be working the cotton candy machine! The park is located at 135 Crawford Road.

The Argyle Police Department is hosting an event at the park for National Night Out on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. There will me more information coming soon so please watch the town website (argyletx.com) and the Argyle Police Department Facebook page.

As we are entering budget season the council has many issues to discuss other than the normal budget items. One such item is a road improvement program. In May, voters approved a proposition to redirect a ¼ cent sales tax to a road improvement fund. This fund will not only enable the town to begin much needed repairs on many roads throughout the town but also develop a proactive program of road maintenance to enable our roads to last longer and reduce future repair costs.

Just as a reminder, I will be at Town Hall on the first Saturday of every month at 9 a.m. for “Mornings with the Mayor.” This is a time for citizens to get to know me as well as talk about any issues that may be on your mind. I always try to have a topic in mind for the day but that is not set in stone. Please come out and join me for some inspiring conversation, coffee and donuts. This event is sponsored by Donut Paradise. They are located at the corner of Country Club Rd. and Hwy 377.

As always, we are committed to serving the citizens of Argyle with the utmost Integrity and Transparency. My philosophy is to serve for the Common Good with a Common Goal with Common Sense.

Argyle Seniors Update

The Argyle Seniors meet each week on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 10 a.m. to exercise and play cards at 11 a.m.

We are planning a trip to Camp Copass on Seniors Day, Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Time will be announced later.

Don’t forget our annual wiener roast and hayride on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 4:40 p.m. at Stella McDaniel’s home.

We have lost three of our seniors: Pat Sheets, Mary Schluter and Jack Beddingfield. Our sympathy to their dear families.

Our prayers for a full recovery to Arlene Kerr who fell and is in rehab. Our friend John Bellinghausen was recently released from the hospital.
