FMPD warns residents about ‘Felony Lane Gang’

The Flower Mound Police Department warned residents Friday about the local presence of people in a national network of criminals.

The “Felony Lane Gang” is known for breaking into vehicles in Flower Mound and all around the country, according to FMPD social media posts. They often watch parking lots and break into unattended vehicles containing purses.

Although not an actual gang, these criminals are named for choosing the “felony lane” at banks, where they’re the furthest away from the teller window, so they aren’t caught in the act of cashing fraudulent checks, according to Flower Mound police. They actively target women who leave their car doors unlocked, who leave their purses in plain sight and who are otherwise distracted.

“While Flower Mound has a low crime rate, we are not immune to crime and often need the public’s assistance in preventing it,” the department’s social media posts said. “This is a reminder to PLEASE take your purses with you and/or keep your valuables out of plain sight when visiting the dog park, fitness centers, day cares and sports complexes … Everyone should be especially vigilant when visiting these places and call 9-1-1 if you see suspicious behavior or witness a crime.”
