Longtime Flower Mound employee passes away

Danny Hartz

Danny (Daniel Eric) Hartz, 58, longtime Flower Mound town employee, lost his battle with cancer in the early hours of Sept. 21.

Hartz’s more than 24 years of service to the Town of Flower Mound began with his hiring on Dec. 1, 1992 as a Building Inspector. In January 1997, he was promoted to Commercial Building Inspector; promoted to Senior Building Inspector in May 2000; followed, shortly thereafter, with a promotion to Assistant Building Official in July 2000. His promotion to Chief Building Official was in August 2000; the position he held until his passing.

“He was a great guy,” said Mayor Tom Hayden. “He always tried to the best for both the town and the developers, too. He was just full of common sense. As recent as two weeks ago, he said he wanted to come back to work; he missed it [his job] and everyone he worked with. He will be greatly missed.”

Hartz is survived by his wife, Karen Hartz; his father, Don Hartz, Sr.; his mother, Ruth Hartz-Collins; his brother, Don Hartz, Jr. and wife, Janet; his brother, David Hartz and wife, Wanda; his sister, Delaine Seals and husband, David; his children and step children, Erin and Nicholas Griffin, Hayden Hartz, Alyssa Hartz, Katy and Ryan Holloman, Rusty Weatherly; his grandchildren, Chelsea and Barrett Griffin, Molly Holloman, Brooklyn and Londyn Thomas. Danny is preceded by his grandchildren Cody Thomas and Tate Thomas and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Chapel, 5725 Colleyville Blvd. in Colleyville.

Reception to follow at the Hartz home.

Flowers to be ordered through Dr. Delphinium, 214-525-1284.
