FM 2499 extension project nearing completion

FM 2499 Phase 5

A long project to extend and expand FM 2499 northward to Interstate 35E in Denton is nearing completion.

The final section of FM 2499 from FM 2181 in Corinth to I-35E in Denton is expected to be finished in December, according to Denton County Commissioner Precinct 1 Hugh Coleman, completing the connection from Denton through Corinth, Highland Village and Flower Mound straight to DFW Airport.

“I think it’s a huge deal,” Coleman said. “This thoroughfare will allow you to go from Hwy 380 (on Mayhill Road) all the way down 2499 to DFW Airport.”

The final stretch of the six-lane divided roadway will meander north/south from the intersection of FM 2499 and FM 2181, passing just east of Guyer High School and west of Oakmont Country Club before meeting the I-35E access road at State School Road.

It’s a decades-long project finally coming to fruition that will give drivers a much-needed north/south alternative to I-35E, Coleman said.

“Having this additional route will be tremendous asset to our community,” Coleman said. “It’s a great alternative to 35E, which even though there are now additional lanes and managed lanes, it still clogs.”
