Torchy’s Tacos, a popular Austin-based chain that got its start as a food trailer in 2006, is coming to Highland Village.

Trademark Property Co., the operating partner for The Shops at Highland Village, announced Monday that Torchy’s Tacos signed a lease for 5,262 square feet at the recently renovated shopping center.

Torchy’s will be located next to The Boardroom Salon for Men on the northeast corner of the mall.

In addition, Runway Seven’s flagship store will relocate this spring to a larger space across the mall, next to Claire’s and across from Zumiez and Buckle.

“We’ve received positive feedback on the renovations to The Shops at Highland Village, and are pleased that prospective tenants are taking notice,” said Terry Montesi, CEO of Trademark. “With the renovations complete, I am confident Torchy’s Tacos will be the first of many new tenants to sign at the center.”

Torchy’s Tacos started out as a food trailer in Austin and has grown to include more than 30 locations in Texas alone. Menu favorites include green chile pork, beef barbacoa, fried avocado, seared ahi tuna, blackened salmon and several other customizable options. The taco shop will have a full bar featuring local beers and craft cocktails.

“We are thrilled to have Torchy’s Tacos open its first location in Highland Village this year, and it will be a great, fast-casual dining option for our guests,” said Ravi Wadhwa, general manager for The Shops at Highland Village.

“It’s also a very exciting transition for Runway Seven to its new, larger location that will become their new prototype. Our mix of local and national retailers and restaurants make The Shops at Highland Village a wonderful place to shop, dine and gather.”

Runway Seven has experienced steady growth at The Shops at Highland Village. Moving to a larger, redesigned space, which will be the brand’s largest store and flagship location, Runway Seven will double in size from its current location and the store will offer a broader selection of women’s clothing and accessories.

Founded in 2008, there are currently 15 Runway Seven boutiques located in seven states offering a wide range of fashion-forward clothing and accessories.

Trademark recently completed its multi-million dollar renovation of the shopping center, which included upgraded building facades, common area and landscaping improvements, public art, new amenities for adults and children, and new signage and graphics throughout the property.
