Letter: Flower Mound has gone chicken

letters to the editor feature photoSo, the Flower Mound Town Council approved an ordinance to allow chickens on residential properties. Yes, it sounded crazy at the time, but heck, it is the Flower Mound Town Council after all, so nothing is too strange.

A few chicken lovers touted the benefits of having a few chickens in a backyard of a residence and of course never said anything about the negative side of the coin.

Well, I got the negative. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week of chickens clucking. 10 1/2 years ago when I bought my house in a residential part of Flower Mound, I never envisioned having to sit in my backyard and listen to chickens. Heck, if I wanted that I could have bought a home in Argyle or another fine farm community.

Flower Mound didn’t need to approve chickens, most residents do not want to own chickens, to live next to a house that owns chickens and I am certain the majority of residents do not want to listen to chickens while using the back patio.

Thus, why did town council approve this ordinance? Are they that out of touch with the majority of residents of the town or do they just not care? Flower Mound has gone chicken and I am the one who gets to listen to them.

To every member of the town council who voted for chickens, I look forward to the next election!!! Time to take Flower Mound back from those who look to destroy the beauty and charm of Flower Mound.
