Our team has been anxiously awaiting the opening of a new local restaurant to bring to your attention, so we were thrilled to hear when Verf’s Grill & Tavernopened in Flower Mound this week!

We also heard that several of you Foodies were excited for their opening as well, and we’re happy to report that this place is INCREDIBLE and is going to prove to be a great addition to the Flower Mound restaurant scene.

Verf’s is the perfect place to head for date night, a business lunch meeting, ladies’ happy hour, or to just park at the bar and enjoy a beer while watching the game. Their menu is so varied and everything is made from scratch right there in the restaurant and is served fresh.

The other thing I love about this restaurant is the united, familial feeling among the staff. Owner Jim Verfurth (who the restaurant is named after) has employees working in the restaurant who have been with him for 18 years, which I think is a testament to the kind of environment Jim has created to work in. If you weren’t aware, Jim actually opened and owned the Village Grill just across FM 407 from Verfs, but recently closed it down after 18 years to open Verfs.

And it’s not just the staff they want to feel like family… Jim’s goal is to make every customer who walks through the door feel welcomed and like a part of the family. He grew up accustomed to working in the kitchen with his family and his goal is to bring that joy of food and family to the community.

Boy, let me tell you, I felt a lot of joy at this meal and so did everyone else. And we ate a lot of food, so we definitely have a lot to tell you about!

Our appetizer course consisted of a Spinach and Edam Cheese Dip with garlic pita chips; Kobe Beef Sliders with caramelized onions, bacon, Vermont cheddar and a hatch chili aioli; the Wonton Tacos Sampler with a lobster, steak, smoked salmon and pulled pork taco; and “The Bread.” Now, let me tell you about this “bread” – it’s actually something Jim’s sister created – and it’s artisan bread scored and stuffed with cheese, garlic butter, green onions and then baked until it’s pure “buttery melted goodness” (as quoted by our server, Sara).

Per usual, we did our due diligence and ordered off varying parts of the menu for our main courses. And they have lots to choose from including soups, salads, sandwiches, steaks and entrees.

We ordered the Grilled Tenderloin salad with hearts of romaine, gorgonzola and warm bacon; the Tortilla Crusted Chicken Salad with fresh pico, avocado and queso fresco; the King Ranch Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich with bacon, tomatoes, jalapeno ranch and melted jack cheese; and the Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork Sliders with a whiskey BBQ glaze and grilled pineapple on Hawaiian rolls.

Oh yeah… and then there was this other awesome thing we ordered… one of their menu favorites – the Bone in Pork Chop covered in a rosemary wild mushroom sauce and served with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus. Let’s just say everyone at the table was jealous when this plate was set down and that Kari was one happy camper eating it. I think she even texted a picture to her husband and requested a date night back to Verfs for this pork chop immediately! It was the juiciest, most tender piece of pork I have ever had.

And it just so happened that today was our newest employee’s birthday, so we celebrated with a couple of Verfs’ incredible desserts to finish our meal. They sang to him with a slice of their Creamy Cheesecake with a Chombard sauce and then we also tried their signature Drunken Donut which is a cinnamon sugar crusted donut filled with a frangelico cream, with the tanginess of the cream perfectly complimenting the sweetness from the donut. I took a bite and my life changed forever… it was honestly one of the best desserts I’ve had in a while.

I am so excited that Verf’s has finally opened and can’t wait to bring my wife and some clients back here to try some more of their delicious menu items. And I can’t wait to see lots of you there when I go!

Stay safe driving around the chaos this weekend, Foodies! And eat really well.
