Highland Village City Council passed a resolution earlier this week designating the third week in October as Fallen Heroes Week.

Since 2008 the Highland Village Police Department has held a “Fallen Heroes” Bike Race fundraiser to benefit the Texas Police Chief’s Association, Officer Survivors Fund. The fund provides immediate financial assistance to families of Texas law enforcement officers that are killed in the line of duty. Over the last two years the event has grown to include a run, a civilian bike race, a raffle and Highland Village Restaurant Week. The continued growth of the event led to identifying the third week in October as Fallen Heroes Week to aid in the participation and success of this event.

The Denton County Transportation Authority presented an update to their ongoing planning initiatives to the Council. DCTA continues to look at ways to provide bus service to Highland Village residents and business community.

Highland Village Elementary student Anna Robinson assisted Mayor Wilcox in her role as Mayor for the Day. Ms. Robinson was the recipient of a Mayor for the Day silent auction item at the Highland Village Elementary annual fundraiser. Ms. Robinson
toured city hall, the police and fire departments and helped Mayor Wilcox officiate the council meeting.

Mayor Wilcox and Mayor for the Day Anna Robinson declared April 25 through May 1, 2015 as Greyhound Adoption Week in honor of the 14th Birthday Anniversary of the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas.

The HVTV Update informed residents of the upcoming Highland Village Art Festival to take place from 10 AM to 7 PM on Saturday, May 2 at The Shops at Highland Village, the May 1 Movie in the Park featuring Big Hero 6 and the beginning of Phase 1 Water Conservation on May 1.

The City Council early work session and regular session is available on HVTV (Time Warner 15; Verizon 43) and via the website streaming by clicking HVTV. The meetings are also available for on-demand viewing on the city website.
