Emma Weatherford’s passion for music has led to some serious accomplishments in her high school career, and the Coram Deo senior said that is just one of her many interests.
Weatherford, 18, who competes in dance, is headed to nationals in a speech competition and is a National Merit Scholar, said she likes participating in a variety of activities to help keep her busy.
“I enjoy very much having something to do, and to have ways to spend time with my fellow students,” Weatherford said. “I have a schedule, and I try to stick to it.”
Weatherford is also a member of the debate team and Student Government at Coram Deo Academy.
The Flower Mound teen said if there was one thing about the world in which she lives today she feels the most grateful for the connectivity that technology has provided to people.
“I think our access to information is really a wonderful thing,” Weatherford said. “People can coordinate projects across long distances and share information to solve problems.”
Weatherford said that there is one thing that she would like to see changed in the world, as well.
“I would like to see better access to education for everyone,” Weatherford said. “And not just education to learn facts or get a job, but a deeper education that allows people to have the background and critical thinking abilities to engage in the issues.”
Of all the things Weatherford said that she will remember about her time at Coram Deo Academy, Weatherford said there is one aspect of her education that has been the most special for her.
“Our teachers are absolutely amazing,” Weatherford said. “They would drop anything to help us in our classes.”
Weatherford is headed to Baylor University in the fall where she plans to enter medical school.
