Flower Mound incumbents unopposed, town council election cancelled

For the first time in as long as anyone can remember, there will be no town council election this May in Flower Mound.

Mayor Tom Hayden and council members Steve Dixon and Bryan Webb did not draw challengers for their second terms in office and the council election has been cancelled.

“It’s a positive feeling to know that we are doing what the majority of our residents think is good for our town,” said Mayor Tom Hayden.

“I just want to keep it going for the next two years and help our town grow and continue to add jobs and keep moving in a positive direction.”

Records indicate that Flower Mound has had a contested election every year going back to at least 1970, according to Town Secretary, Teresa Scott.

“From 1961, when the town was incorporated, to 1970, there were documented elections each year except for 1965, 1967 and 1969, where it’s unclear if there was an election because there is little documentation,” said Scott.

Flower Mound voters will still head to the polls on May 10 to decide the Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees race for the Place 6 and 7 seats. See a list of candidates who filed here.
