Jags get back on track, down Denton Ryan 2-0

After a little time off, the Flower Mound High School boys soccer team got back to the pitch as they traveled to Denton on Tuesday to take on the Ryan Raiders and finish up the first round of district play.

The Jags put pressure on the Raiders early and often breaking through with a goal at the 15 minute mark. Tyler McElwee found an open Taylor Smith who rolled a shot into the goal past the Ryan goalie. Although the Jags had many chances in the remainder of the period from John Satterla, Cam Riley and a host of other Jags, the chilly first half ended with the Jags up just 1-0.

The second half started in a similar fashion with the Jags dominating most of the action. In the 65th minute Grant Adams played in a long pass from midfield that found the foot of Cam Riley in the box. An expert touch from Riley put him one-on-one against the Ryan goalie and a swift strike found the net putting the Jags up 2-0.

Jag goalie, Michael Martin, along with the Jag backline kept the Raiders at bay most of the evening. Martin was only forced to make a handful of saves, but these are never easy in windy and rainy conditions.

The Jags will travel to Lewisville on Friday to take on the Farmers where they open up the second round of district play. This key district matchup will go a long way in determining the Jag’s playoff fate.

In JV action, the JV team took down Denton Ryan 1-0 bringing to close the first round of district play with a win. In the early game, the JVII team dropped a close match to the Raiders 1-0.
