Upshaw named principal for Marcus 9th Grade Campus

Lewisville ISD’s Board of Trustees announced this week that Chantell Upshaw will be the principal of Marcus High School’s 9th Grade Campus, which will open in August 2014.

Upshaw is a 14-year veteran administrator of LISD who has extensive secondary education experience.

“My experience at both middle and high school levels is going to be an asset at the ninth-grade campus,” Upshaw said. “I understand the needs of freshman students and their unique perspectives and am excited to have this opportunity to help them define themselves in an innovative way.”

Upshaw is currently the principal at Lewisville Learning Center (LLC), where she has been since 2010. Prior to her experience at LLC, she served as the associate principal at Marcus High School from 2000-2007 and principal at Arbor Creek Middle School from 2007-2010.

“It is with great pride that we welcome Mrs. Upshaw back to Marcus High School. We believe she will jump right back into being a Marauder and take the new ninth-grade campus to great heights,” Marcus Principal Gary Shafferman said. “There is no doubt we will have an excellent working relationship to do what is best for our students, staff and community.”

Upshaw worked in strategic planning and collaboration, curriculum transformation, multicultural insight and parent outreach, professional learning and implementation and technology integration. When she officially takes on the role of MHS 9th principal March 17, she plans to immediately start conversations with Shafferman and connect with parents, students and the community.

“Chantell has a great deal of experience and is an innovative leader who is well-tuned to the needs of the Marcus community,” LISD Superintendent Dr. Stephen F. Waddell said. “I look forward to seeing the Marauders flourish under her leadership.”

Upshaw and her husband Ike have three children, and live in Lewisville ISD.
