Congressman Burgess to host annual transportation summit

Michael Burgess, R-Lewisville, will host his eleventh annual transportation summit in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The forum will take place Monday, November 25, in Denton.

The summit will include information presentations and panel discussions by federal, state and local officials regarding the Federal Transportation Policy. Special focus will be given to the transportation issues affecting North Texas.

“Unprecedented population and employment growth in North Texas has increased traffic, leading to congestion and straining existing transportation capacity. Further complications resulting from gas tax policy and efforts to increase vehicle gas mileage threaten the funds available to build, maintain and improve North Texas roads, bridges and transit,” Dr. Burgess said.

“It is essential that North Texas’ voice be heard in Washington and Austin concerning these issues to ensure we keep this region and our economy moving.”

Congressman Tom Petri, Chairman of the House of Representative Transportation Subcommittee on Highways and Transit will be the keynote speaker.
