Attendance zone meetings scheduled for Lantana area elementary parents

The Denton Independent School District has scheduled two public hearings to provide elementary parents the opportunity to review proposed boundary changes and explore their attendance options.

The rezoning applies for the 2014-15 school year and mostly affects students attending schools in the southern section of the district, which includes E. P. Rayzor Elementary, Blanton Elementary, Pecan Creek Elementary, Hawk Elementary and McNair Elementary.

The public hearings are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Crownover Middle, 1901 Creekside Dr. in Corinth, and Thursday, Dec. 5, at Harpool Middle School, 9601 Stacee Lane in Lantana.

School officials said that rezoning is necessary for the 2014-15 school because the district is building a new elementary school in Lantana that will open in August 2014 to help accommodate the rapid growth of the southern section of Denton ISD.

Elementary School No. 22 is located north of FM 407 and west of Copper Canyon Road near the Fairlin neighborhood of Lantana.

The areas being considered for rezoning include:

New Elementary School No. 22 in Lantana: The proposed areas include the Lantana neighborhoods of Sierra, Telea, Laviana, Gaillardia, Fairlin, Reata, Palmetto, Meridian, Crescent and Kendall. It will include Bartonville, Double Oak, Canyon Oaks, Copper Canyon and other areas south, west and north of FM 407 and east and west of Copper Canyon Road.

E.P Rayzor Elementary: It will include mostly the Lantana neighborhoods of Carlisle, Wimberly, Camden, Brazos, Sonora, Wisteria, Navarro, Magnolia and Bel Air.

Blanton Elementary: The attendance zone will include the current neighborhoods except for those neighborhoods mentioned above, which will be attending the new elementary school, McNair, or E.P. Rayzor.

Hawk Elementary: The Oakmont area west of I-35, which currently attends Pecan Creek, is proposed to attend Hawk.

McNair Elementary: The Hickory Creek community that borders Bluebonnet and Redbud, who are now attending Blanton, are proposed to attend McNair.

“This meeting provides families the opportunity to plan ahead and/or have choices for the coming school year. It also is necessary for the school administrators to plan for staffing at these schools,” said Assistant Superintendent Robert Bostic.
