Copperas Branch Park closed during expansion of I-35E

Copperas Branch Park in Highland Village closed Monday and will be out of commission through late 2016 due to the 35Express project.

During construction, crews will use the park for construction staging as well as the alignment for a new southbound bridge across Lewisville Lake.  Construction is expected to begin in the fall.

Once the park reopens, it will include new sports fields, picnic areas, a trailhead connecting Copperas Branch with Copperas Branch East, additional parking under the lake bridge, and restored beach areas.

In addition to the improvement to the park, a new shared path for pedestrians and bicyclists will be constructed across the bridge.

The 35Express project will add reversible managed lanes, general purpose lanes and frontage roads along the Interstate 35E corridor between Hwy 380 in Denton County and I-635 in Dallas County. The project will also increase the capacity of several bridges including FM 407, Garden Ridge Road, Post Oak Road and Corinth Parkway.

The $1.4 billion project is funded through federal, state and local resources as well as State Highway 121 regional toll funds dedicated to Denton County. The City of Highland Village was compensated for the use of the park.
